Engagement Summary

The Digital Communication Specialist provides ongoing communications and community-engagement support for the Marshall Terrace Neighborhood Organization (MTNO).

The contractor will help keep residents informed, promote neighborhood events and activities, maintain MTNO’s digital communication channels, and support engagement with residents, community partners, local businesses, and public officials.

Engagement Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
Contract Fee: $700-800 per month

Scope of Services

Digital Communications & Content

  • Create, edit, and publish content for MTNO’s website, newsletters, social media, postcards, and other communication channels.
  • Gather neighborhood news, stories, photos, and updates for use in MTNO communications.
  • Maintain clear, timely, and consistent messaging across communication channels.
  • Create basic graphics, promotional materials, and other digital content as needed.

Social Media & Community Engagement

  • Manage MTNO’s social media presence, including planning, creating, scheduling, and publishing content.
  • Maintain an appropriate posting cadence based on neighborhood activity, upcoming events, audience engagement, and relevant community topics.
  • Monitor social media trends, community conversations, and available engagement data to help improve outreach.
  • Monitor digital inquiries and route matters requiring Board attention to the appropriate representative.

Board, Community & Event Communications

  • Support communications for Board meetings, the Annual Board Meeting, neighborhood events, and community initiatives.
  • Coordinate as appropriate with Board members, residents, local businesses, community organizations, public officials, and other partners.
  • Assist with event promotion, calendars, signage, postcards, volunteer communications, and other outreach materials.
  • Support preparation of annual or periodic MTNO communications and reports.

Digital Records & Systems

  • Maintain relevant website content, calendars, contact information, mailing lists, and communication-related records.
  • Coordinate with the Finance & Administrative Coordinator regarding shared digital files, calendars, mailing lists, and communication systems.

Qualifications

  • Experience in digital communications, social media, marketing, community engagement, or a related area preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with social media, website publishing, email marketing, and basic design tools.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet agreed-upon deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, Board members, community partners, businesses, and public officials.
  • Familiarity with Minneapolis neighborhoods or community-based organizations is preferred.

Coordination

The contractor will coordinate with the MTNO Board of Directors and designated Board representatives regarding priorities, events, deadlines, and official communications.

The contractor will exercise independent professional judgment in carrying out the agreed-upon services.

Additional terms related to payment, invoicing, termination, confidentiality, ownership of work product, account access, equipment, and expenses will be addressed in the Independent Contractor Agreement.
